F.U.... Fixer Upper!

So, last week I temporarily lost my mind!  The husband and I went and looked at a house!  Now, I have no desire to move, but I was temporarily tempted though.  There is one street not too far from where I currently live that I love.  It is full of AMAZING houses.  It is one of those neighborhoods full of big trees, wide sidewalks and gorgeous houses!

This is a house that is currently on sale but needs a TON of work!  I thought it had such potential.  It has 12 foot ceilings, amazing historic details, 5 fireplaces, and open staircase where you can see all the way up to the 3rd floor.  It is HUGE.... 3,500 square feet.  When I say it needs work .... I mean kitchen needs to be totally gutted, has a ton of wall paper,  wood paneling, old bathrooms, and so on and so on!







Well, luckily... we could not be tempted.  The price is still too high for the amount of work it needs.  It is more than cosmetic... it has original windows, has gas line but running on oil heat (expensive), needs electrical upgrade and has two old air conditioners built in that would need to be removed.   These are things that require experts and that are VERY expensive.   The final straw is that it has an "easement" for the driveway... meaning they don't "own" the driveway.  That is a deal breaker for us!  

So, thank god we were not tempted.  I have a new job (promotion) and a new baby... if I took on a new house too... I would have to have my head examined!

P is for Project!

So, since the wee one arrived, we have not had a real house project.  The husband loves a project and has been hankering for something new to work on!  Well, he now has one.  We have a strange room in our basement that is "finished" it has a fireplace and everything.  I will share more on the "update" of the room.   At one point, the husband had made some "improvements" in hopes at one point of having a "kick ass" man town.  But, he never really used the space.  My philosophy is use it or lose it! So, we have a three bedroom house, once Avery arrived we lost a guest room.   At Christmas we had more guests than beds.  So, we have decided to convert the basement room into a playroom/guest room.  Now, Avery will not use it as a playroom for quite a while, but I like to plan ahead!  It will be great to have some additional guest space.  So, in order for it to function as guest space and "hang out" or play space- we need sitting and...

I is for Inspiration...

I love this feature wall.  Usually I am not into feature walls, but in this case... LOVE IT!  I stumbled across this photo in Better Homes and Gardens magazine.  I could not find this photo on their website so sorry for my bad photo taken of the magazine page. As you know, I did a Board and Batten project in my master bedroom.  I have gotten lots of compliments on it!  I like a project that adds character to a house!  I have also admired exposed board walls like the one Miss Mustard Seed created.  Unfortunately, the exposed board look does not really go with the style of our house which has a lot of molding, wainscotting, etc.   I think it is a little too casual for our home.  If we had a cape or bungalow it would be great, but our Royal Barry Wills colonial calls for something else.
